Declaring June 21, 2024 as “Make Music Philly Day.” WHEREAS, Music is an extremely powerful medium and is referred to in many colorful phrases as the universal language, as having charms to soothe the savage beast, and as the sound of what emotions feel like; and WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is overflowing with residents who use their abundant gifts to perform, entertain, and bring both happiness and comfort to their audiences. Providing opportunities for Philadelphia's music lovers to attend these performances is a valuable “natural resource,” and the City commends those musicians who share their gifts and help us connect with each other; and WHEREAS, Make Music Philly is an annual one-day festival held on the Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year) to encourage people of all musical abilities to celebrate the joy of making music; and WHEREAS, Presented by Soul Sanctuary, Make Music Philly is part of the international music festival known as Make Music Day, which was first celebrated as Fete de la Musique in Paris, France in 1982. Over one thousand cities in 120 countries will celebrate Make Music Day in 2024, its 42 nd anniversary; and WHEREAS, On Make Music Philly Day, musical performances and educational workshops are planned to take place in public spaces throughout Philadelphia and will be free for musicians and audiences alike.
